Natural Chemistry is a health shop situated in Northland’s Whangarei. Our shop first opened over 10 years ago and has built an impeccable reputation as a place to get great personal service, professional health advice and quality products.
In 2010 I bought the store. I moved up from Auckland to get a taste of the country life. My goal was to continue the tradition of this store’s community spirit and passion for helping people and combine the old world charm and ethics with a modern business approach. Our customers often comment on how lovely the atmosphere feels when they walk into our shop. Our staff are happy, friendly, knowledgeable professionals, willing to help.

With over thirty years of experience in the Natural Health Industry, Leah has a wealth of knowledge she loves to share with her customers and staff. She is dedicated to creating safe and effective health outcomes for her customers and insists on excellent service for those shopping on-line or in-store.
Leah is registered with the Natural Health Practitioners of NZ Inc.
Leah’s career started in 1981 when she attended the South Pacific College of Natural Therapeutics.
Leah says "It changed my life. Back in the 80’s we were taught to use enema kits for bowel health, grow your own wheat grass for juicing, use brewer’s yeast for B vitamins and drink lactic fermented vegetable juice to get probiotics. It was very different. We grew our own herbs, made our own tinctures and there was a strong focus on natural diagnostics like Touch for Health, Nail and Tongue Diagnosis, Iridology and Reflexology.
We applied onion packs to relieve bronchitis, castor oil packs for inflammation, took cod liver oil for immune health, apple cider vinegar to help digestion, epsom salts as a source of magnesium and painted Lugols solution on our feet for thyroid health. Then there was gallbladder flushes, regular skin brushing, sitz baths and hot and cold shower therapy.
The modalities such as Homeopathy, Massage, Bach Flowers ,Yoga, Meditation, Colour Therapy, Emotional Counseling and Herbal Medicine, all played a part in our holistic approach to healing. Our tutors were some of the great pioneers of natural medicine like David Duggan - who taught us to treat the person not the disease".
Leah’s numerous qualifications include Diplomas in Herbal Medicine, Massage, NLP, Iridology, Naturopathy, Sports Nutrition and many more. Her passion for Iridology led her to study with the late, great Robert Lucy at the College of Somatic Studies in NSW, Australia and to later become an Iridology tutor at WellPark College in Auckland.
She has owned and operated successful businesses in Weight Management, Sports Training (Japan, UK and NZ) and Nutrition (California) and worked in radio as talk back host with health guru Eileen Evans. She has also had Marketing and Technical Management roles within the NZ health industry.
Leah says - "I’ve had a lot of variety working in the natural health industry and studied for many years in many different colleges. I dont follow one particular paradigm. I realise the need for knowledge never ends, you have to keep up with latest research, but the greatest education I 've ever had... is my field experience. After seeing thousands of people, consulting and teaching wellness becomes second nature, it's my passion, my purpose, my life .....".
Gayle Ware
Store Manager/ Natural Health Consultant
Gayle has been with the shop for many years. She worked with the original owners before it was called Natural Chemistry. In 2010 when Leah Cameron bought the store Gayle was asked to stay on and become the Store Manager.
Gayle’s current role includes stock control and ordering plus she is a walking encyclopaedia for helping customers with health issues. Gayle has completed numerous health courses and has over 10 years experience in the Natural Health Industry.
One of Gayle’s first influences in natural health dates back many years ago with one of her own children.
She says “I had some health issues with my son when he was little, he was getting sick all the time and we were not able to get him better with the mainstream medical system. I decided to try some natural interventions like homeopathy, natural supplements and changing his diet and I finally got results. I got him well. This was my first introduction into using natural remedies and I have never looked back.”
Gayle has a great reputation and even gets stopped on the street or in the supermarket by customers who ask about health issues, knowing they will get friendly and wise advice. She has endless energy and a happy disposition. Hmmm ...it must be all those natural supplements she is taking!
